"The school has been using the service of WPA for a number of years and continues to be impressed with its approach to improving school attendance and to safeguarding young people and their families. Each year we refer a number of complex cases of entrenched non-attendance, in addition to seeking advice regarding ambiguous cases and referrals for court action. WPA Education Welfare Services is always ‘on-call’ to answer these questions and works hard to manage a complex, and often heavy, case load, building key relationships with students and their families, as well as school staff. The school’s EWO is an important point of contact with students and their families and ensures safeguarding concerns are followed up effectively and that communication with the school remains strong. Through weekly meetings with the school’s Year Teams, the EWO quickly gains an insight into the reasons for students’ non-attendance at school and can help provide advice about the next steps to support improvements here. The work of the EWO has certainly had a positive impact on improving attendance for a number of students and remains a valuable part of the support the school offers to do this."
